Memories of Jaklen

Only after Jaklen laughed her way into my life, did I realize what it means to live fully everyday. Jakie shook my being with her beauty, shattered some fundamental assumptions with her intelligence and ignited an eternal flame with her inimitable spirit. I consider it a great privilege to have been alive at the same time as this genius and to have had her as my closest friend. Jakie lives in my heart as a guiding light. It will always be an honor for me to say I walked with this angel, hand in hand.

Jaklen is without doubt the person that has had the most profound impact on my life. She was a very important influence and inspiration at the time I was trying to figure out who I was, and what I wanted to do. Without her as my motivator, I would probably not have so worked to hard to get into graduate school and pursue a doctorate degree. She touched my life on many levels. I would not be half the person I am today without her.

These are photos taken during the summer of '99. Jaklen organized a hiking trip to this beautiful spot in Northern Georgia. I remember thinking how great it was that I got to go on this hike because I had been wanting to go for a long time, but never seemed to make the time, despite the numerous opportunities. It wasn't until Jaklen's suggestion and usual enthusiasm that I finally got up the energy to go! It was a great time and just another small example of Jaklen's varied interests, talents, and proficiencies. Her absence is felt greatly by the PHPS class of 1998.

Here are some pictures that I would like to share with the rest people who loved Jaklen as much as I do.
